Therapeutic Curriculum

The therapeutic curriculum is designed to support the emotional wellbeing, personal development and resilience of young people alongside their academic learning. It provides a safe, nurturing environment where students feel valued, understood and supported to regulate their emotions and build positive relationships. The curriculum is informed by trauma-informed practice and principles of social pedagogy, recognising the importance of authentic relationships, trust, and meaningful shared experiences in supporting learning and development. Central to this approach is the understanding that young people do not all develop at the same rate and should not be defined solely by their chronological age or perceived academic ability. Instead, learning opportunities are adapted to meet each young person at their individual developmental stage, identifying their strengths, interests and potential in order to support progress. Through structured therapeutic activities, reflective discussion, restorative practice and consistent routines, learners are supported to develop emotional regulation, self-awareness, communication skills and positive coping strategies. By integrating relational practice, emotional support and personalised learning pathways, the therapeutic curriculum aims to remove barriers to learning, promote engagement in education and enable each young person to develop confidence, resilience and the skills needed to achieve their full potential.
